MycoFutures is creating a new material for the fashion industry, and beyond, with mycelium, the root system of fungi.  This is a material that is animal free, plastic free and non-toxic, leveraging vertical farming technology.

Our mission is to create a product that has the look and feel of leather but without the environmental impact.

What is Mycelium

What is Mycelium?

Mycelium is the complex  root system of fungi.  This is the stage before the fruiting body, what you know as a mushroom.

Why Mycelium

Why Mycelium?

01. Low CO2 Emissions

Mycelium-based leather alternatives produce drastically lower carbon emissions throughout the production process and supply chain.

02. Fast Growing

Mycelium grows quickly! Some in a matter of days.  More importantly, mycelium decomposes quickly, releasing carbon back into soil.

03. Eliminate Plastic

Synthetic leathers are created & processed using petroleum and toxic chemicals.   Mycelium leather alternatives can be processed and dyed naturally.

MycoFutures is based in Turtle Island (Canada).

LAND ACKNOWLEDGEMENT: MycoFutures and the founders respectfully acknowledges the privilege to live and work on the Treaty and Traditional Territory of the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation, The Haudenosaunee Confederacy, the Huron-Wendat and Wyandot Nations.

Today, the lands that constitute present-day Mississauga are still home to indigenous people from across Turtle Island. We recognize all First Peoples who were here before us, those who live with us now and the seven generations to come.  As First Peoples have done since time immemorial, we strive to be responsible stewards of the land and to respect the cultures, ceremonies, and traditions of all who call it home.  As we open our hearts and minds to the past, we commit ourselves to working in a spirit of truth and reconciliation to make a better future for all.
