MycoFutures North Atlantic is a next-gen materials cleantech startup cultivating mycelium, the root system of fungi, to create a new, circular material for the fashion industry, and beyond.
Our mission is to create a product that has the look and feel of leather but without the environmental impact.
What is Mycelium?
Mycelium is the complex root system of fungi. This is the stage before the fruiting body, what you know as a mushroom.

Why Mycelium?

01. Low CO2 Emissions
Mycelium-based leather alternatives produce drastically lower carbon emissions throughout the production process and supply chain.
02. Fast Growing
Mycelium grows quickly! Some in a matter of days. More importantly, mycelium decomposes quickly, releasing carbon back into soil.
03. Eliminate Plastic
Synthetic leathers are created & processed using petroleum and toxic chemicals. Mycelium leather alternatives can be processed and dyed naturally.

Sustainability
MycoFutures North Atlantic is committed to producing a truly sustainable product. As the venture grows, the UN Sustainable Developments Goals will guide decision making at all levels.

Circularity
MycoFutures' product range is being developed with its own end-of-life in mind. Creating a product that does not result in waste is crucial to our vision.

LAND ACKNOWLEDGEMENT: MycoFutures North Atlantic respectfully acknowledges the land on which we are established as the ancestral homeland of the Beothuk, whose culture has been lost forever and can never be recovered. We also acknowledge the island of Ktaqmkuk as the unceded, traditional territory of the Beothuk and the Mi'kmaq. And we acknowledge Labrador as the traditional and ancestral homelands of the Innu of Nitassinan, the Inuit of Nunatsiavut, and the Inuit of NunatuKavut.
Today, Ktaqmkuk is still home to indigenous people from across Turtle Island. We recognize all First Peoples who were here before us, those who live with us now and the seven generations to come. As First Peoples have done since time immemorial, we strive to be responsible stewards of the land and to respect the cultures, ceremonies, and traditions of all who call it home. As we open our hearts and minds to the past, we commit ourselves to working in a spirit of truth and reconciliation to make a better future for all.
